 Sri Lanka is a multicultural country. There are many festivals associated with its culture. Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities celebrate their cultural festivals in a very grand and festive manner. Among them, Sinhala and Tamil people jointly celebrate a festival known as the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. 

     This festival falls in April every year. This festival is celebrated based on the movement of the sun. The retuals of this festival are performed according to nakath times. It has been passed down since ancient times. 

   When this festival approaches, houses are cleaned and decorated. Moreover, traditional new year sweets are also prepared. Children and adults come together and play traditional folk games. During this season, many traditional folk games and new year festivals are held.With new clothes, delicious food and drinks, and traditional folk games, this festival is celebrated without any ethnic or religious deffer
